On Friday 9th October 2015, Altéo participated, in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium), at the conference “caregivers” hold by the Christian Mutuality. The event brought together about 300 stakeholders having interest in the theme, mainly care professionals and family caregivers. We spent the morning in lectures shedding light on the situation of helping individuals with diminishing autonomy in Belgium and the challenges we face, three workshops addressing three needs of caregivers were proposed:
• The need for information and training
• The need for listening and support
• The need for respite
These workshops were the opportunity to present Altéo’s initiatives to support caregivers such as speech groups, respite stays and the European project “ACT!-Acting for dependent people” carried out in partnership with MOC-CIEP and 6 other European partners from 4 different European countries.
The project “ACT!” was presented in the workshop n°1 dedicated to the need for information and training. More than a hundred people had expressed an interest in this subject. After a brief presentation of the origins of the project, experimentation and training modules and the first lessons we have learned, participants were able to give their opinions and to consider the extent to which the presented tool were useful and usable in their field realities. The proposed training modules, responding to specific needs of caregivers while aiming interconnection between players, were unanimously appreciated. Many participants found in the project “ACT!” answers and tools that could contribute to improving their experienced problematic situations.
